Kelly Group adds to its stable

Mthunzi Mdwaba has been appointed deputy chief executive of the Kelly Group and will join its board as an executive director. Mdwaba is currently the group CEO of Torque IT, which has been acquired by the Kelly Group. Mdwaba, who obtained a BA LLB at the University of the Witersrand, led Torque IT to a number of international and local awards and was IT personality of the year 2004/05. He is one of the vice-presidents of Business Unity South Africa and is the outgoing chairman of its transformation policy committee. Mdwaba is also the national chairman of the Black Information Technology Forum and holds a number of other directorships and trusteeships.

JWT Johannesburg has appointed Danie van Aswegen as financial director. Van Aswegaen qualified as a charted accountant and has gained substantial financial and business experience in a wide range of industries, including the public sector, manufacturing and retail, before entering the advertising industry in 2001 when he joined Leo Burnett. “I worked closely with the management teams of the advertising and media brands within the Leo Burnett group and gained invaluable experience during my tenure,” he said.

Ogilivy Cape Town has announced its new management structure. Rob Hill has been promoted to group managing partner of Ogilvy South Africa and will oversee Ogilvy Cape Town as well as all Cape- based subsidiaries, including Zoom Advertising, Added Value Group (AVG) and Coley Porter Bell.
Gavin Levinsohn, previously MD and co-founder member of Singh & Sons, has been appointed managing director of Ogilvy’s Cape Town office.

Levinsohn has made huge strides in the advertising industry in the past 11 years after graduating from UCT with a bachelor of business science (honours in finance) and completing a post-graduate diploma at the AAA School of Advertising. Eight of his 11 years were spent at the Jupiter Drawing room in Cape Town, were he worked his way up from account manager to starting the agency’s first strategic planning department. After spending time in London, Levinsohn returned to Jupiter Drawing Room as client service director and, in 2003 was appointed to the board.

Anglo Platinum has appointed Kuseni Dlamini as non-executive director. Dlamini, a political and business commentator, is the head of Anglo American South Africa and a member of the executive committee of Anglo American. After graduating cum laude with a BA (honours) degree from Natal University in Durban, he went to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, where he read for his MPhil degree. In MARCH 2008, Kuseni was named a young global leader by the World Economic Forum (WEF). During the same month, Miningx selected him as one of the top 100 most influential people in South Africa mining.
